Sa Dingding Releases Stunning World Fusion Album Alive
Sa Dingding's release Alive has already sold over 2 million copies in China. Mingling traditional Chinese, Bhuddist mantras with electronic instruments, her album opens an entirely new genre for world music.
If you've seen the video on YouTube, you know that the production group behind Alive know their stuff. Despite the language difference, we can take away a lot of meaning from her music.
Born in Mongolia to a Mongolian mother and a Chinese father, she developed an early interest in the ethnic music of the region that she heard as a child.
Before we start to talk, we know how to sing, she says referring to her childhood years At the age of eighteen, she released her first album, earning the title of Best Dance Music Singer in China. She performs songs featuring lyrics she has written in Mandarin, Sanskrit, Tibetan and the near-extinct Lagu language.

Sa Dingding was born in Inner Mongolia in 1983. A singer, musician, composer and choreographer, she sings in Mandarin, Tibetan and Sanskrit, and sometimes in an entirely self-created language. Combining traditional Chinese folk music and Western electronica, she released her debut album seven years ago and recently won the Radio 3 World Music Award, in the Asia Pacific category. She currently lives with her parents in Beijing.
